Depression
Low mood, lost motivation and a world that feels grey. Small, evidence-based steps can bring colour back.
What it is
Depression is more than sadness. It can drain energy and motivation, disturb sleep and appetite, and flatten interest in things you once enjoyed. It often brings harsh self-critical thoughts and a sense of hopelessness.
How CBT helps
CBT for depression works on two fronts: gently re-engaging with meaningful activity (behavioural activation) and identifying the negative thinking patterns that maintain low mood. It is recommended by NICE as a first-line treatment.
What therapy looks like
We start small — rebuilding routine and moments of achievement and pleasure — then work on the thoughts and beliefs underneath. Therapy is compassionate and moves at your pace.
When to seek help
If low mood has persisted for more than two weeks, or you find yourself withdrawing from life, support is available and effective. If you ever feel unsafe, contact your GP, NHS 111 or Samaritans on 116 123.
